How much is it to rent a tent for a day?

That spread is not the yards being vague. “A day” is not one product.
What a rental day actually covers
Most companies do not rent commercial tents the way a hardware store rents a tiller. A 10x10 pop-up can be a Saturday pickup. A 20x40 frame that has to be staked, dressed, and taken down occupies a crew on both sides of your event.
Typical windows:
- True day rate. You collect it in the morning and return it that evening or the next business day. Common for pop-ups and some 20x20 frames.
- Event-day pricing, weekend possession. The invoice says one day. The tent sits on your lawn Friday through Sunday. This is the default for installed party tent rentals.
- Wedding weekend. Install mid-week, event Saturday, strike Sunday or Monday. You are paying for labor days, not 24 hours of fabric.
If two quotes are $400 apart, check the window before you assume one company is expensive.

A 20x20 is the size most people mean when they search this question. Public 2026 lists we checked sit around $365–$400 for the tent itself in mid-size markets, before the truck.
What moves the number
Surface. Grass that can take stakes is the cheap install. Driveways, rooftops, and HOA lawns need water barrels or concrete blocks. Ballast can cost as much as the tent.
Distance. A yard 40 minutes away will add a trip fee. Search tent rentals near you before you fall in love with a cheaper out-of-market quote.
Date. A Thursday graduation is easier to staff than an October Saturday. Peak months in most metros are May, June, September, and October.
Add-ons. Sidewalls, string lights, a 20x20 dance floor, and heaters are where a $600 tent becomes a $2,000 invoice. Ask for a line-item quote.
Tent type. A pole tent is usually the least expensive installed option on open grass. Frame tents cost more and work on hard surfaces. Clearspan is an engineered structure and prices like one.
How prices change by city

- Jackson and Wichita: about $700–$4,500 for a 100–200 guest weekend.
- Atlanta and Denver: about $1,200–$10,000 for a 150–250 guest weekend.
- Chicago, Miami, and New York: $1,500–$12,000 is a normal dressed weekend. Los Angeles can run $2,000–$15,000.
A backyard frame in any of those cities still clusters near the table above. The city gap shows up when you add sailcloth, climate, flooring, and Saturday labor.
How to get a number you can use
Send every company the same spec:
- Date and whether the tent can sit overnight.
- Guest count and layout — cocktail, seated, or dinner plus dance floor. If you have 50 people, start with what size tent you need.
- Surface: grass, gravel, pavers, or rooftop.
- What has to live under the fabric: tables only, or a buffet, bar, and band.
- Pickup versus installed.
A useful quote names the tent size, the possession window, delivery, labor, and each add-on. A single lump sum is a placeholder.
